For My Girls in PINK!
I dedicate this post to my Aunt Linda who is a two time Cancer surviver and Mrs. Nikita Polk Anderson (better known as Mrs. Nikki) who fought with all her might!
As you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month! So many people are attacked by Cancer each day, I wanted to create a post that brings awareness and also celebrate the lives of people. I’ve done some research, and I wanted to share with you some things that I didn’t know about Breast Cancer.
If you don’t know the science behind Breast Cancer, I found a quick answer for you. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Breast cancer is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the breast. Now that we have the medical definition of cancer, let's talk about some facts!
1. 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.
2. Although rare, men get breast cancer too. The lifetime risk for U.S. men is about 1 in 1,000.
3. On average, every 2 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States
4. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women, except for skin cancers
5. It is a Myth that if you have a family member with a history of breast cancer, that you are likely to develop cancer as well
6. Women who get regularly screened for breast cancer have a 47% lower risk of dying from the disease compared to those who don’t
